OBJECTIVE
Musicianship Evaluations encourage a well-balanced lesson curriculum for teachers and students, and provide incentives for goal attainment in areas of Music Appreciation, Theory, History, Ear Training, Technique, and Sight Reading. The objective of the Music Projects Fair is to foster an appreciation of music, and to enrich the general music education of the student by providing an opportunity to use musical ideas and skills in a creative manner.
TEACHER ELIGIBILITY
Any teacher who is a member of Encore may register students for this and all student events sponsored throughout the year. Annual membership dues are standard throughout the year and are not prorated.
STUDENT ELIGIBILITY
Any student may participate who has paid the registration fee and is studying with a teacher who meets the requirements above.
INFORMATION
Music projects should be done at home, independent of the music teacher (although the teacher may give suggestions and advice). Projects must meet minimal criteria, but students should not feel they need to devote excessive time and materials to their projects. Projects may be a solo effort, or several students may enter a project as a group effort. A project involving more than four students needs to be pre-approved by the event chair. Students may participate in only one project.
Research papers must be done individually. While guidance from parents and others is acceptable, projects should be done by the students themselves. Adjudicators may withhold the 100 Club Ribbon Award for any project appearing to have had inappropriate assistance.
Because all projects are uploaded into AuditionWare, they must be the following format to work: YouTube or GoogleDrive link, PDF, JPG, and M4A. Any other format will not work. YouTube and GoogleDrive links must be shared with others or made ‘unlisted’ or ‘public.’ Teachers and students are responsible for ensuring their links work for the judge prior to submitting the links on AuditionWare.
AWARDS AND INCENTIVES
Every participant will receive an evaluation, certificate, and 100 Club Ribbon. Additional awards for Outstanding Projects may also be presented. Students who complete all categories of Musicianship Evaluations will earn a composite score once all categories are completed. The Encore Medallion Award is given to students who have earned composite scores for at least two years, and have attained specified point goals. (See Encore Musicianship Evaluations Incentives, Member Information.) Judges have the right to not award a grand prize if there is only one entrant per category who does not meet the standards of the grand prize.
Scholarship Auditions will be held in May, and will be open to all seniors who have completed requirements for Ensemble Festival, Solo Festival, Concerto Festival, Musicianship Evaluations, and the Encore Keyboard Competition.
Project Guidelines and Descriptions may be found under “Materials” on the website.
