Scholarship Auditions

ENCORE SCHOLARSHIP AUDITIONS OBJECTIVE

To offer seniors in high school (or the equivalent) a scholarship experience prior to college. Money can be used toward education, summer music clinics, or seminars.

TEACHER ELIGIBILITY

Any teacher who is a member of Encore may register students for this audition. Annual membership dues are standard throughout the year and are not prorated.

STUDENT ELIGIBILITY

Applicants must be currently enrolled as a senior in high school, or the equivalent and study with a teacher who meets the requirements above. Applicants must pay the audition fee by the registration deadline. Applicants must have participated in all Encore-sponsored student events during the year of application. These include the Keyboard Competition, Ensemble Festival, Solo Festival, Concerto Festival, and all categories of Encore Musicianship Evaluations (Theory, Ear Training, Projects Fair, and Technique).

An email is sent out to teachers confirming seniors who want to participate in the scholarship audition. Scholarship auditions will be held the third week of May at a local university with a piano professor. Pending the schedule of the professor, yearly dates may change for the audition.

REPERTOIRE REQUIREMENTS

Each student will perform 10 minutes of solo repertoire for the judge and can include concertos without accompaniment. Students may audition with selections previously performed at a previous Encore event.

The adjudicators must be provided with a score. Should a score not be provided, the applicant will be disqualified. Because of strict copyright protection laws, Encore does not permit the use of photocopied scores. Should copies be used, the student will be disqualified. Adjudicators may interrupt any performance which exceeds the recommended time limit of 10 minutes.

JUDGING

Qualified adjudicators will hear and evaluate all applicants to select the scholarship winners.

AWARDS

Scholarship recipients will be announced on the website and will be given a monetary award from Encore’s treasurer via mail or Venmo. Scholarship amounts vary pending on how many students enter the audition.

NOTE

The Encore Executive Board will determine the possibility of any exceptions or changes to the rules and guidelines above.
